The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and parking brake is engaged
- Turn the ignition to ON position (press start button twice without brake pedal) to power the shift system
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Press the 'N' (Neutral) button on the gear selector panel
- If the system is unresponsive due to electrical failure, locate the manual shift lock override - check under the plastic trim panel around the gear selector button area for a small access hole or removable cap
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key into the override slot and press down while attempting to press 'N'
- If successful, the transmission will shift to neutral and the vehicle can roll freely
