🚨 2024 Renault Captur: Emergency Neutral
The 2024 Captur hybrid uses a conventional console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift-lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available (press start button without brake pedal).
- Locate the shift-lock override access - look for a small rectangular cover or slot near the base of the shifter console, typically on the left or right side of the shifter lever.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or a key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the brake pedal (if you have power) and moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If successful, the shifter will release from Park and move to Neutral.
- If the vehicle needs to be towed, ensure the hybrid system is in tow mode (see EV warning below).
Shift-lock override location
Small access slot near the shifter base, typically covered by a removable cap on the console - check both left and right sides of the shifter surround
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, jump-start the 12V system using the under-hood jump points (positive terminal under red cover in engine bay, negative ground point on chassis) to gain enough power to activate ignition and release shift lock. The hybrid high-voltage system does not need to be active, only the 12V accessory power.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID CRITICAL: The E-Tech hybrid powertrain requires specific tow preparation. Consult owner's manual for tow mode activation procedure. For distances over 50 meters or if unsure, use flatbed towing only - the electric motor and transmission can be damaged if towed incorrectly. Do NOT tow with rear wheels on ground for extended distances.
