The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake if functional (electronic parking brake button on console).
- Insert the key fob into the vehicle and press the START button twice without pressing the brake pedal to activate accessory mode (provides electrical power to shifter).
- If the battery is completely dead, you will need to jump-start the 12V battery or connect an external power source to gain minimal electrical power for the shifter release.
- Locate the shift lock override slot—it is typically a small covered slot near the base of the shifter on the right side; remove the small rubber or plastic cap.
