🚨 2025 Renault R5 E-Tech: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 Renault R5 E-Tech uses an electronic gear selector, typically a console-mounted lever or toggle mechanism with Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive positions.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chock the wheels before beginning
  2. Attempt to access 12V power: connect a jump pack or donor vehicle to the 12V battery (typically under the hood)
  3. With 12V power restored, press the brake pedal and start button to energize vehicle electronics
  4. Move the gear selector to Neutral position using normal operation
  5. If the brake-shift interlock prevents movement, locate the shift-lock override (typically a small cap or slot near the base of the gear selector console)
  6. Remove the override cap using a flat tool or your finger
  7. Insert a screwdriver or ignition key into the override slot and press down while moving the selector to Neutral
  8. If absolutely no 12V power can be restored, the vehicle will require flatbed transport—do NOT attempt to tow with wheels on the ground
Shift-lock override location
Look for a small rectangular or circular cap near the base of the gear selector console; exact location varies but typically directly adjacent to the shifter base
With zero electrical power
The R5 E-Tech requires 12V power to energize the electronic shifter system. Without any power, the transmission cannot be placed in Neutral electronically. A jump pack or donor vehicle is essential. If power cannot be restored, flatbed-only transport is required.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Renault R5 E-Tech is a pure electric vehicle and must be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground. Towing with any wheels on the pavement will cause severe damage to the electric motor and drivetrain. Do not attempt dolly towing.
