🚨 2024 Renault Scenic E-Tech: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 Scenic E-Tech electric vehicle uses an electronic push-button or rotary-style transmission selector on the center console.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Set the electronic parking brake if it responds, or chock the wheels securely
  2. Attempt to power on the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the start button - even with a depleted 12V battery, a jump pack or jumper cables connected to the 12V battery may provide enough power
  3. Once the vehicle powers on, press the brake pedal and select Neutral (N) using the transmission selector
  4. If the 12V system cannot be powered at all, the transmission will remain locked in Park electronically with no mechanical override accessible to the operator
  5. For complete 12V failure, the vehicle must be placed on a flatbed truck with all wheels off the ground, or the 12V battery must be charged/replaced before moving
With zero electrical power
The Scenic E-Tech has no accessible mechanical shift lock override for operators. The transmission is locked electronically. With zero 12V power, you cannot shift out of Park. You must either: (1) provide external 12V power via jump pack or jumper cables to the 12V battery to power up the vehicle systems and select Neutral normally, or (2) load the vehicle onto a flatbed with all wheels off the ground. Do not attempt to tow with any wheels on the ground.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Scenic E-Tech is a full electric vehicle. NEVER tow it with any wheels on the ground, even in Neutral, as this will rotate the electric motor and can cause severe damage to the drive system and generate dangerous voltage. Always use a flatbed truck with all four wheels off the ground. If you must roll the vehicle a short distance for loading, first ensure the vehicle is powered on and in Neutral with the high-voltage system safely disengaged.
