🚨 2016 Renault Talisman: Emergency Neutral

The 2016 Talisman uses a conventional console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available
  3. Press the brake pedal and move the shifter from Park to Neutral normally
  4. If the shifter is locked and won't move, locate the shift-lock override slot
  5. The override is typically covered by a small removable cap or cover near the base of the shifter on the right side or front
  6. Use a flathead screwdriver or the emergency key to pry off the cap
  7. Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down while simultaneously moving the shifter to Neutral
  8. If successful, the vehicle can now roll freely in Neutral
Shift-lock override location
Near the base of the shifter console, typically on the right side or forward section, covered by a small removable cap - look for a small rectangular or circular cover about 1-2cm in size
With zero electrical power
With no 12V power, the shift-lock override must be used. The override mechanism is mechanical and does not require electrical power. Remove the protective cap near the shifter base and use the override slot with a screwdriver or key to release the shift lock while moving the lever to Neutral.
