The procedure
- Ensure parking brake is firmly applied and wheel chocks are in place
- Turn ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Press the shift-lock override button located on the left side of the shifter base (may be under a small rubber cap)
- While holding the override button, move shifter from P through R to N
- If ignition is ON, the gear position should display on the instrument cluster
- Release brake pedal only after confirming vehicle is in Neutral and properly chocked
