The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly applied
- Attempt to turn the ignition to ON position - even minimal 12V battery charge may allow selector operation
- With ignition on, rotate the gear selector dial to the Neutral position
- If the 12V battery is completely dead and the rotary selector is locked, look for a mechanical shift lock override
- Inspect the area around the base of the rotary selector for a small covered slot or access panel
- Remove any cover and insert a small tool into the override mechanism
