🚨 2025 Renault Zoe: Emergency Neutral
The 2025 Renault Zoe uses a column-mounted electronic rotary selector with Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive positions.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and chocked appropriately
- Press and hold the brake pedal (if 12V power is available)
- Turn the ignition to ON position by pressing the start button without pressing the brake pedal
- Rotate the drive selector clockwise from Park through Reverse to Neutral position
- If the electronic shifter will not respond due to complete electrical failure, access the manual shift-lock release
- The shift-lock override is located near the base of the column-mounted selector - look for a small cover or access panel on the lower steering column shroud
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool to access and press the mechanical release while attempting to rotate the selector to Neutral
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or winched onto a flatbed
Shift-lock override location
Near the base of the column-mounted selector, typically accessed via a small cover on the lower steering column shroud area
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter will not function normally. You must locate and use the mechanical shift-lock override release near the column selector base. The 12V battery is located under the hood - if possible, jump-start the 12V system to restore selector function. Note: the high-voltage traction battery does not assist with shifter operation.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Renault Zoe must be transported on a flatbed truck with all wheels OFF the ground. DO NOT tow with any wheels touching the road surface - the electric motor remains mechanically connected to the drive wheels even in Neutral, and towing will cause severe damage to the motor and inverter. Ensure the parking brake is released before loading. If the 12V battery is completely dead, the parking brake may be electronically held - you may need to jump the 12V system momentarily to release it.
