⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chocked if possible
- Locate the small circular shift override release cap on the left side of the steering column shroud, below the gear selector stalk
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cap
- Insert the screwdriver or a similar tool into the override slot and press firmly
- While holding the override button depressed, move the gear selector to Neutral
- The vehicle can now roll freely - maintain constant brake pressure or use chocks
Shift-lock override location
Left side of steering column shroud, below the gear selector stalk - small circular cap concealing the mechanical shift lock override
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V system: The shift lock override works mechanically and does not require any electrical power. However, you will NOT have power steering or power brakes. The vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with wheels free-rolling in Neutral - do not attempt to steer or tow.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: This is a commercial electric delivery van with substantial battery weight. FLATBED TRANSPORT ONLY - never dollies or traditional tow. The 12V battery must be jump-started or the mechanical override used to shift to Neutral before loading. Do not attempt to push or winch onto flatbed while in Park - drivetrain damage will occur. Wheels must roll freely.
