The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
- Locate the shift lock override - look for a small cover or access point near the base of the column shifter where it meets the steering column
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool to remove the override cover
- Press and hold the shift lock release button/tab with the screwdriver while simultaneously moving the shift lever to Neutral
- If successful, the shift lever should move freely to N
