The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Insert the key fob into the steering column slot (required for shift-lock override even with dead battery).
- Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is a small covered opening near the base of the shift lever on the steering column.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the mechanical key from the fob to gently pry off the cover cap over the override slot.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press firmly while simultaneously moving the shift lever toward Neutral.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or winched onto a flatbed.
- If the electronic parking brake is engaged and non-functional due to power loss, the vehicle may require flatbed transport with wheel dollies.
