🚨 2013 Rolls-Royce Ghost: Emergency Neutral
The first-generation Ghost (2010-2020) uses a traditional column-mounted gear selector lever on the right side of the steering column.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly applied
- If battery power is available, turn the ignition to position II (ON) without starting the engine
- Locate the shift lock override: there is a small rectangular cover/cap on the left side of the column shifter housing near the base
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover
- With the cover removed, insert a small screwdriver or key into the override slot
- Press the override button/release firmly downward while simultaneously moving the shifter from Park to Neutral
- If successful, the shifter will move freely to N; keep the brake pedal depressed during this process if battery power allows brake systems to function
- If the column shifter will not budge, verify that the steering lock is not engaged (steering wheel should turn slightly)

With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the steering lock may engage and the column shifter electronic release will not function. The mechanical override should still work, but you may need to have the vehicle jumped or towed in Park if the steering lock cannot be released. Some Ghost models require ignition position II to release the steering lock, which needs minimal 12V power—consider a jump box to the battery terminals under the hood.
