🚨 2024 Rolls-Royce Ghost: Emergency Neutral
The second-generation Ghost (2021-present) uses a column-mounted electronic gear selector lever on the right side of the steering column, similar to the first generation but with updated electronics.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly applied
- If any battery power is available, press the start button twice without pressing the brake pedal to reach ignition ON mode
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the column shifter assembly—look for a small cover or access point on the lower left side of the shifter housing
- Carefully pry off the small cover using a trim tool or flat-blade screwdriver wrapped in tape to avoid scratching wood/leather trim
- Insert a small screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot
- Press the override release firmly while simultaneously attempting to move the shifter out of Park into Neutral
- If the electronic system has any residual power, you may hear a click when the override is pressed
- Keep foot on brake if electrical systems are functional during the override attempt

With zero electrical power
With complete power loss, the second-generation Ghost's electronic shifter may be more difficult to override than the first generation. The mechanical override should still function, but the electronic steering lock and shifter lock are interdependent. If you cannot achieve ignition-ON state with a jump box or portable battery, the vehicle may need to be towed in Park position. The battery is located in the trunk; if trunk electric release fails, use the mechanical trunk release (pull handle inside the trunk accessed through the rear seat pass-through or external keyhole).
