🚨 2025 Rolls-Royce Ghost: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 Ghost uses a column-mounted electronic shifter stalk on the right side of the steering column (RHD markets have it on the left), integrated with BMW's ZF 8-speed automatic transmission and electronic parking brake.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and chock all wheels securely
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V power is available (do not start engine)
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
  4. The shift-lock override slot is located beneath a small rectangular cover cap on the center console near the shifter base—use a small flathead screwdriver or key to pry off the cap
  5. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot and press down while moving the shifter stalk to neutral
  6. If no electrical power: you must jump-start the 12V battery (located in trunk, right side) to power the electronic shifter and release the electronic parking brake—without 12V power the transmission cannot be shifted
  7. Once in neutral, the electronic parking brake must also be released (requires 12V power); if battery is completely dead, the vehicle cannot roll and must be lifted/dollied onto flatbed

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter and parking brake are completely locked. You must restore 12V power via jump-start (battery in trunk, right side) or connect a power supply to the jump-start terminals under the hood. Without power, the vehicle cannot be shifted or released from park—flatbed with dollies required.
