🚨 2022 Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII: Emergency Neutral
The Phantom VIII uses a column-mounted electronic shifter stalk on the right side of the steering column with traditional P-R-N-D positions.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- If the battery is dead, you must jump-start the 12V battery or connect an external power source to the jump-start terminals under the hood to energize the electronic shifter system.
- Once power is restored, press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Move the shifter stalk to the Neutral position.
- If the shift interlock is preventing movement despite brake pedal application, locate the small plastic cap on the lower center console near the shifter base.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert the mechanical key or a small screwdriver into the shift lock override slot and press down while moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If power cannot be restored and override access is not available, the vehicle must be placed on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground—do not attempt to tow with any wheels on the ground.

With zero electrical power
The Phantom VIII electronic shifter requires 12V power to function. Without power, you must jump-start the battery using the under-hood terminals (positive terminal under a red cover, negative grounding point on the chassis). If jump-starting is not possible, the vehicle cannot be shifted and must be loaded onto a flatbed with all wheels off the ground.
