The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground.
- Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
- Press the brake pedal firmly; if the shifter does not release, proceed to the manual override.
- Locate the shift lock override access point near the base of the column shifter assembly at the steering column.
- Remove any small cover or trim piece concealing the override slot.
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the slot and press the override release.
- While holding the override depressed, move the shift lever to Neutral.
