🚨 2025 Rolls-Royce Spectre: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 Spectre uses a modern electronic column-stalk style shifter integrated into the steering column with fully electronic transmission control.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake
  2. Attempt to power on the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the start button (if 12V auxiliary battery has any charge)
  3. If the shift lock will not release electronically, locate the shift lock override - look for a small covered access near the shifter stalk base on the column
  4. Remove any plastic cover and insert a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot
  5. Press or push the override mechanism while attempting to move the shifter to Neutral
  6. Note: As a full EV with electronic transmission, the Spectre may require activation of transport mode through service menus if accessible
  7. If no power is available and override does not work, contact Rolls-Royce Roadside Assistance or arrange flatbed transport with wheels free-rolling

With zero electrical power
The Spectre's electronic transmission requires at least minimal 12V auxiliary battery power to function. With complete power loss, the transmission may not mechanically release into neutral. Jump-starting the 12V system or replacing the 12V battery is the preferred solution. If this is not possible, the vehicle must be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground - do not attempt to tow with wheels on the ground.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Spectre is a full battery-electric vehicle. NEVER tow with any wheels on the ground as this will rotate the electric motor and potentially cause severe damage to the drive system and high-voltage components. Always use a flatbed with all four wheels secured. If the vehicle must be moved short distances (such as onto a flatbed), ensure the drive system is in a free-rolling state by activating transport/service mode if possible through the vehicle systems.
