- Firmly engage the parking brake and place chocks at the wheels
- Turn the ignition key to at least position I (accessory) if any battery power is available
- Locate the shift lock override—look for a small rectangular slot or removable cover near the base of the shifter on the driver's side of the console
- If a plastic cover is present, carefully pry it off using a small flathead screwdriver
- Insert a screwdriver, key, or similar rigid tool into the override slot and press down firmly
