🚨 2022 SEAT Tarraco: Emergency Neutral

The 2022 SEAT Tarraco uses a console-mounted electronic shift-by-wire lever (DSG transmission) with an electronic parking brake and shift interlock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake manually if functional.
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position (press START button twice without pressing brake pedal) to provide power to the shifter electronics.
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
  4. Press the shift lock override button while pulling the shifter toward you into Neutral—the override button is typically a small rectangular button or slot located on the left side of the shifter base, often covered by a removable cap or trim piece.
  5. If ignition cannot be powered on (dead battery), locate the shift lock override slot near the shifter base (check left side of shifter housing or consult owner's manual for exact location on your trim).
  6. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade into the override slot and press down while moving the shifter to Neutral.
  7. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or loaded onto a flatbed.
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular button or slot on the left side of the shifter base, may be covered by a removable plastic cap; exact location may vary slightly by trim level.
With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, you must use the mechanical shift lock override slot near the shifter base. Insert a tool into the override slot and press down to release the shifter lock, then move to Neutral. If the electronic parking brake cannot be released due to no power, the rear wheels will remain locked—vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with rear wheels off the ground or EPB must be manually released (requires removing rear brake calipers, not a roadside procedure).
