The procedure
- Engage the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
- Turn off the hybrid system completely if possible (push start button without brake pedal to ACC, then off).
- Locate the shift lock override cover—it's a small rectangular cap on the left side of the shifter base, near the shifter release button.
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the shift lock override cover.
- With the cover removed, you'll see a small slot inside.
- Insert a small screwdriver into the slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If the 12V battery is completely dead, the mechanical shift lock override will still function—no electrical power is required for the override mechanism itself.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be carefully loaded onto a flatbed.
