🚨 2015 Suzuki Solio: Emergency Neutral

The 2015 Suzuki Solio uses a modern console-mounted automatic shifter with electronic shift-lock and hybrid system integration.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly
  2. Attempt to turn the ignition to ON or READY mode if the 12V battery has any charge
  3. If the hybrid system powers up, press the brake pedal and shift to Neutral normally
  4. If no power is available, locate the shift-lock override access - look near the shifter base for a small cap or cover
  5. Remove the cap using a flat tool or by prying gently
  6. Insert a small screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot
  7. Press down firmly on the override while attempting to move the shifter to Neutral
  8. Some force may be required - ensure the parking brake is set before applying pressure
Shift-lock override location
Located near the shifter base on the center console, typically on the side or front of the shifter housing behind a small removable cap - check owner's manual for exact position as Japanese-market specifications may vary
With zero electrical power
With a completely dead 12V battery, the shift-lock override provides mechanical release. Remove the override cap, insert tool, press firmly to disengage the lock mechanism, and move shifter to Neutral. The hybrid system does not need to be active for the mechanical override to function.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
The Solio is a mild hybrid with a small electric motor assist. While it can be flat-towed short distances in Neutral with the hybrid system off, extended towing should be done with drive wheels off the ground. Consult the owner's manual for maximum flat-tow distance and speed limitations, as the transmission may not receive adequate lubrication when not running.
