The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available
- Locate the shift lock override slot, typically found near the base of the shifter console (check for a small rectangular cap or cover adjacent to the shifter)
- Remove the override cover by prying gently with a flat-head screwdriver or similar tool
- Insert a screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral
- If no power is available, keep the override pressed and manually move the shifter to Neutral position

With zero electrical power
