🚨 2026 Suzuki Solio: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Suzuki Solio uses a console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot, typically found near the base of the shifter assembly (often covered by a small rectangular cap)
  4. Remove the cap by prying gently with a flathead screwdriver or similar tool
  5. Insert a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar rigid tool into the override slot
  6. Press down firmly on the override while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the lever to Neutral
  7. If the vehicle has no power and won't start, you may need to keep the override depressed while moving the shifter
Shift-lock override location
Near the shifter base, typically on the right side or front of the console shifter assembly under a removable cap
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock will engage. Use the mechanical shift lock override as described. If the steering lock engages with no power, you may need to provide auxiliary 12V power via jump-start or battery replacement to unlock steering before moving the vehicle.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
This is a mild hybrid system. The vehicle can be shifted to Neutral and towed normally on a flatbed. Do not attempt extended flat-towing with driven wheels on the ground. For long-distance transport, always use a flatbed or trailer.
