🚨 2025 Tesla Cybertruck Long Range RWD: Emergency Neutral

The Cybertruck uses a touchscreen-based gear selector on the center display with optional stalk override on the left side of the steering column (depending on production date).

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is safely supported and chocked - Cybertruck weighs approximately 6,800-7,000 lbs
  2. If you have ANY 12V power (low-voltage battery functional): Press the brake pedal and use the touchscreen to select Neutral, or swipe up on the left steering column stalk (if equipped) to engage Neutral
  3. If the 12V battery is completely dead, you CANNOT shift the Cybertruck into neutral electronically - there is no mechanical override
  4. With a dead 12V battery, use the external 12V jump points under the front tow hook cover (driver side front) to provide temporary power, then shift to Neutral via touchscreen
  5. The 12V jump points are accessed by removing the front tow hook cover panel - you'll need an external 12V source to power the vehicle systems
  6. Once 12V power is restored, select Neutral on the touchscreen or via stalk, then the vehicle can roll freely
  7. To activate tow mode (vehicle must have 12V power): Touchscreen > Service > Towing > enable Transport Mode - this disengages the parking brake and allows towing
  8. Transport Mode must be enabled before flatbed loading to prevent parking brake auto-engagement
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, there is NO mechanical shift override. You must jump the 12V system using the external jump points under the driver-side front tow hook cover. Once 12V power is present, use the touchscreen or column stalk to select Neutral.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: Cybertruck must be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels OFF the ground. Never tow with any wheels on the ground as the permanent magnet motor generates voltage when wheels rotate, which can damage the drive system. Enable Transport Mode via touchscreen (requires 12V power) before loading to prevent parking brake from automatically engaging. High voltage battery is isolated from 12V systems.
