🚨 2014 Toyota Camry: Emergency Neutral
The 2014 Camry Hybrid (XV50 generation) uses a console-mounted electronic shift lever with a shift-lock override release.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly set and the vehicle is on level ground or properly supported.
- Turn the ignition to ON or press the power button (without brake pedal if dead brake-light switch) if 12V power is available.
- Locate the shift-lock override: Look for a small rectangular cap or slot on the console near the base of the shifter, typically on the left side or front-left corner of the shifter surround.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or ignition key to carefully pry off or open the override cover.
- Press the brake pedal (if you have 12V power and a working brake-light switch) and simultaneously insert the tool into the override slot and press down or pull the mechanical tab.
- While holding the override actuated and pressing the brake, move the shifter from P to N.
- If the 12V battery is completely dead, see 'No Power Notes' below.
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular cap or slot on the console near the base of the shifter, typically on the left side or front-left corner of the shifter surround; exact position may vary slightly with trim.
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the hybrid system will not initialize and the shift-lock solenoid will not release even with the override tool. You must provide power to the 12V auxiliary battery (located under the hood on the driver's side) via jump-start or battery charger. A brief connection is usually enough to allow the shift-lock override to function and move the shifter to N. If jump power is unavailable, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed without shifting.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The 2014 Camry Hybrid has NO tow-mode or mechanical neutral bypass. The hybrid transaxle keeps the motor/generators electrically coupled to the wheels even when 'off.' Towing with drive wheels on the ground when the hybrid system is not fully powered can generate dangerous high voltage and cause catastrophic damage to the inverter, motor/generators, and transaxle. FLATBED TOW ONLY unless the vehicle powers on completely and you can verify N on the instrument cluster. Even in N, if the hybrid system is non-functional, do NOT tow with wheels down.
