🚨 2024 Toyota Sienna: Emergency Neutral
The 2024 Toyota Sienna uses an electronic monostable (return-to-center) shifter on the center console with no mechanical linkage to the hybrid transaxle.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly—this is critical as the parking brake is the only mechanical park lock.
- If the 12V battery has any charge, press the POWER button without touching the brake pedal to reach ACC or ON mode.
- Press the brake pedal and move the shifter to N (push forward once from P).
- If the shift does not engage due to failed brake switch, locate the shift lock override: remove the small cover panel on the left side of the shifter base.
- Press the override button inside with a screwdriver while moving the shifter to N.
- With completely dead 12V battery, the electronic shifter WILL NOT function—there is no mechanical override to release the transmission park pawl.
- Activate tow mode: with the vehicle in ACC or ON (requires some 12V power), press and hold the P button on the shifter for 3 seconds until the multi-information display shows 'Tow Mode' or transmission icon changes to indicate neutral.
- If 12V battery is completely dead and tow mode cannot be activated, the vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground—do not attempt to dolly or tow with any wheels on the ground.

With zero electrical power
CRITICAL: With a completely dead 12V battery, the electronic shifter cannot command the hybrid transaxle into neutral and there is no mechanical shift lock release that affects the transmission park pawl. The shift lock override only releases the shifter button lock, not the transmission itself. You cannot put this vehicle in neutral without at least some 12V power to activate tow mode. Jump-start the 12V battery or connect a battery booster pack to gain enough power to activate tow mode. If this is impossible, flatbed transport with all wheels off the ground is the only option.

WARNING: The 2024 Sienna is a hybrid with an electronically controlled transaxle. If the 12V battery is completely dead, you CANNOT shift into neutral mechanically. The shift lock override only releases the shifter itself, not the transmission park pawl. You must have 12V power to activate tow mode (hold P button for 3 seconds). If tow mode cannot be activated, the vehicle MUST be loaded onto a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Do NOT attempt to tow with any wheels on the pavement—the hybrid transaxle will be damaged. Even with the vehicle in tow mode/neutral, Toyota recommends flatbed transport to avoid potential hybrid system damage.
