🚨 2026 Toyota Venza: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 Venza hybrid uses an electronic push-button or electronic monostable shifter (Toyota continues the 2021-2024 design with P/R/N/D buttons or a small electronic lever on the center console).

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional
- Press and hold the brake pedal (even with dead 12V battery, maintain pressure)
- Press the POWER button twice without pressing the brake to enter ACC mode (if 12V battery has any residual charge)
- If the shifter responds, press the N (Neutral) button or move the shifter to N
- If the shifter is completely unresponsive due to dead 12V battery, you must jump-start the 12V battery or connect an external 12V power source to the jump-start terminals under the hood
- Once 12V power is restored, press POWER twice (no brake), then shift to N
- If the hybrid system shows READY mode accidentally, press POWER once more to turn off READY while keeping the transmission in N
With zero electrical power
The Venza hybrid has an electronic shifter that requires 12V power to operate. There is no mechanical shift-lock override slot. You MUST provide 12V power via jump-starting (positive terminal and ground point under hood) or a portable jump pack to the 12V battery before the shifter will function. Without any 12V power, the transmission cannot be shifted and the vehicle cannot be moved under its own wheels.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Venza is a hybrid with a high-voltage traction battery. For flatbed towing, the front wheels should be OFF the ground or use a dolly under the front wheels, as the CVT hybrid transaxle can generate voltage when rotated. Consult the owner's manual towing section. If the 12V battery is dead and you restore power, ensure the hybrid system is OFF (not in READY mode) before towing. NEVER tow with rear wheels off the ground and front wheels rolling for extended distances.
