🚨 2021 Toyota Yaris BR: Emergency Neutral
The 2021 Brazilian-market Yaris uses a conventional floor-mounted console shifter with a button on the handle for Park release and a cable-actuated shift lock solenoid.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery power is available (this may allow the shift lock to release normally with brake pedal depressed).
- If the shifter remains locked or there is no power, locate the shift-lock override slot—it is typically a small rectangular cover near the base of the shifter console, often on the left or right side of the shifter bezel.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or a key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the shifter out of Park.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded.
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular cover near the base of the shifter console, typically on the side of the shifter bezel—exact position may vary; check both sides of the shifter base if not immediately visible.
With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the shift-lock override is your only option. Use the manual override slot (remove cap, insert tool, press down) while moving the shifter. The override mechanically bypasses the solenoid. Ensure parking brake is set before attempting.
