The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and wheels are chocked.
- Turn the ignition key to the ON/ACC position if battery has any charge remaining.
- Locate the shift lock override slot: look for a small rectangular cap or cover on the left side of the shifter base near the console.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the override cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key straight down into the override slot and press firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter out of Park.
- Move the shifter to Neutral.
- If the vehicle needs to roll, you may need to keep the override depressed or have the shifter held in Neutral position.
