The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Attempt to turn ignition to ON position if any battery power remains (press START button without brake pedal)
- Locate the shift lock override access - look for a small cover or slot on the left side of the shifter base near the console
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to remove the override cover if present
- Insert the tool into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the shifter release button and move to Neutral
- Replace the cover if removed
