⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and wheel chocks are in place
- Access the 12V battery (located under driver's seat) and connect a jump pack or charger to restore minimal electrical power
- Press the brake pedal and press the power button to turn on the electrical system
- Pull the drive selector stalk toward you and move it upward to select Neutral (N)
- If the system remains locked, check that the brake pedal switch is functioning - you should see brake lights when pedal is pressed
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved slowly for short distances (loading onto flatbed)
With zero electrical power
With complete 12V power loss, the ID.Buzz LWB cannot be shifted electronically. You MUST restore 12V power via jump pack or charger to the 12V battery under the driver's seat before any shifter operation is possible. Without power, the parking pawl remains locked and flatbed towing is the only option.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The ID.Buzz LWB must be flatbedded - never tow with wheels on the ground. Even in Neutral, towing will cause severe electric motor and drivetrain damage. For flatbed loading: activate Transport Mode through the vehicle settings menu (Car > Service > Transport Mode) if 12V power is available, which releases the electronic parking brake. Transport Mode allows the vehicle to roll freely for loading. Maximum rolling distance in Neutral without Transport Mode is very limited. Note: AWD variants (if equipped) are especially sensitive and absolutely require flatbed.
