The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly set and wheels are chocked
- Turn the ignition key to ACC or ON position (if battery allows)
- Locate the small rectangular shift lock override cover on the left side of the shifter base, near the P position
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry up and remove the override cover
- Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal and move the shifter to Neutral
- If the shifter still won't move, continue holding the override down and apply more force to the shifter while pressing the brake
