The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and wheels are chocked
- Turn the ignition key to ACC or ON position (if battery has any charge)
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the left side of the steering column shroud, near where the shift lever enters the column housing
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot (approximately 1/4 inch deep)
- While pressing the override with the screwdriver, press the shifter button and move the lever to Neutral
- If successful, the vehicle can now roll freely
