🚨 2026 Volvo EX30: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 EX30 is a fully electric vehicle with a monostable (spring-return) console shifter that returns to center position after each selection.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Confirm the 12V battery has some charge - the EX30 requires at least minimal electrical power for the shifter to function
- If the 12V battery is completely dead, it must be jump-started or charged before the shifter will operate (the 12V battery is located under the hood)
- With 12V power available, press the brake pedal firmly
- Press the vehicle's start button without pressing the brake (or with brake if the brake switch is functional) to wake the electrical system
- Move the shifter to the Neutral position by tapping it upward once from Park
- If the shifter will not move due to shift lock, check for a small mechanical override near the shifter base - it may be located on the right side of the shifter console or under a small cover
- IMPORTANT: The EX30 must be transported on a flatbed truck - never tow with any wheels on the ground as this can severely damage the electric drive system
Shift-lock override location
Check for a small cover or slot near the shifter base, likely on the right or rear side of the console; exact location is model-year dependent and may require consulting owner's manual
With zero electrical power
The EX30 absolutely requires 12V battery power to shift. With a completely dead 12V battery, you must jump-start the vehicle or charge the 12V battery before the electronic shifter will function. The high-voltage EV battery does not help if the 12V system is dead. Access the 12V battery under the hood for jump-starting.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Volvo EX30 is a fully electric vehicle and must ONLY be transported on a flatbed truck. Never tow this vehicle with any wheels touching the ground, even in Neutral, as the electric motors remain connected to the wheels and towing will cause severe damage to the drive system and potentially create a safety hazard. If you cannot get the vehicle into Neutral, load it onto the flatbed in Park using a winch or dolly system.
