🚨 2024 Volvo EX90: Emergency Neutral
The 2024 EX90 is a fully electric SUV with a compact electronic gear selector on the center console (typically a small lever or toggle).

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and wheel chocks are in place
- Attempt to power on the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the start button
- If the 12V battery is completely dead, you must jump-start or charge the 12V battery enough to power the electronics—the EX90 cannot be shifted without some electrical power to the gear selector
- Once minimal power is available, press the brake pedal firmly and use the gear selector to move to Neutral
- If the brake pedal is stiff and the shift interlock will not release, look for a shift lock override—check the small cover or slot near the base of the gear selector on the center console
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to press and hold the override release, then shift to Neutral while holding it
- If you cannot get power and cannot shift to Neutral, the vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground
Shift-lock override location
Likely near the base of the center console gear selector, under a small cover—exact location not confirmed for 2024 EX90
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the EX90 cannot be shifted electronically. You must jump-start or trickle-charge the 12V battery to get minimal power to the shifter and instrument cluster. Do not attempt to tow with wheels on the ground.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
The EX90 is a full EV with electric motors at the axles. NEVER tow with any wheels on the ground. Rotating the wheels without the drive system in a proper tow mode will generate voltage and can severely damage the electrical system and motors. Flatbed transport only.
