🚨 2024 Volvo S60 Recharge: Emergency Neutral
The 2024 S60 Recharge uses a console-mounted electronic gear selector lever with a shift-lock button on the front of the shifter knob.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ON position (press START without brake pedal twice) to power the shift-lock system
- Locate the small rectangular shift-lock override slot on the right side of the shifter base, below the selector lever
- Remove the small plastic cover cap by prying gently with a flat tool
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade into the override slot
- While pressing the override down firmly, press the shift-lock button on the shifter knob and move the lever to Neutral
- If successful, the gear indicator will show N on the instrument cluster

With zero electrical power
With no 12V power, the electronic shifter will not function and the override will not work. You must jump-start the 12V battery (located in the cargo area under the floor panel on the right side) to restore power to the shift-lock system before attempting to shift. The high-voltage hybrid battery does not help with this.

CRITICAL: This is a plug-in hybrid. Before towing, you must enable Transport Mode to disengage the electric motor. With power restored: Go to Settings > My Car > Transport Mode on the center screen and follow prompts. Without Transport Mode active, the electric motor remains engaged and FLATBED TOWING ONLY is required. Do not tow with drive wheels on the ground without Transport Mode enabled or you will destroy the electric drive unit.
