The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Press the START button without pressing the brake pedal to turn on the ignition (accessory mode).
- Firmly press and hold the brake pedal.
- Push the shifter forward to move from Park to Neutral.
- If the shift interlock prevents movement, locate the shift lock override: look for a small rubber cap on the left side of the shifter base.
- Remove the rubber cap to expose the override slot.
- Insert a flathead screwdriver or the mechanical key into the slot and press down firmly while moving the shifter to Neutral.
- Keep the ignition ON to maintain power steering and brake assist if possible.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter and all vehicle systems are non-functional. The 12V battery is located in the trunk on the right side. Jump-start the 12V battery to restore accessory power, then use the shift lock override procedure. Without any 12V power, the override may not mechanically release the transmission—professional flatbed towing is required.

The S90 Recharge is a plug-in hybrid with rear electric motor. A dead 12V battery disables all functions regardless of high-voltage battery charge. NEVER flat-tow or tow with rear wheels on the ground—this will damage the electric drive unit and transmission. Use only flatbed towing or wheel-lift with rear axle raised. If 12V power is available, select Neutral and ensure parking brake is released before loading.
