🚨 2025 Volvo S90 Recharge: Emergency Neutral
The 2025 S90 Recharge uses a monostable (spring-return) center console shifter that returns to center position after each input.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- If 12V power is available, turn the ignition to ON mode (press START without brake pedal twice).
- With power available, press and hold the brake pedal, then move the shifter rearward to select Neutral.
- If no 12V power is available, you must use the mechanical shift lock override.
- Locate the small rectangular shift lock override cover on the center console, directly adjacent to the shifter on the right side.
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cover.
- Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously attempting to move the shifter.
- With the override depressed, move the shifter rearward to the Neutral position.
- The transmission is now in Neutral and the vehicle can roll freely.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, you must use the mechanical shift lock override slot. The hybrid system will be completely inactive, but the mechanical override allows the transmission to be shifted to Neutral. Ensure the electronic parking brake is released before attempting to move the vehicle; if it's engaged with no power, professional service will be required.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The S90 Recharge is a plug-in hybrid. If the high-voltage system has faulted or the 12V battery is dead, the vehicle may not properly disengage the electric drive system. FLATBED TRANSPORT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. If you must roll the vehicle a short distance (onto a flatbed), keep it under 30 feet and under 20 mph. Extended towing with drive wheels on the ground can severely damage the electric motor and transmission components. Never flat-tow this vehicle.
