🚨 2019 Volvo V90 Cross Country: Emergency Neutral
The 2019 V90 Cross Country uses a center console-mounted electronic shifter with a traditional PRND gate and a mechanical shift-lock override.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V power is available (press START without brake pedal twice)
- Locate the shift-lock override slot - it is a small rectangular opening on the left side of the shifter base, near the driver's side of the shift lever
- Remove the rubber mat or small cover panel if present to access the override slot
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade into the override slot
- While pressing down firmly on the override (you're releasing the shift lock solenoid), press the brake pedal and move the shifter to Neutral
- If no power is available, keep the override pressed while physically moving the shifter - it may require firm pressure
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can roll freely - have someone ready to control movement

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the override slot still functions mechanically. Insert the key or screwdriver into the override slot and apply firm downward pressure while moving the shifter to Neutral. The shift lock is spring-loaded and will release mechanically. You may need to rock the shifter slightly while maintaining override pressure. Note that without power, the ignition lock may prevent steering wheel movement.
