Parts
- Fog light bulb H11 LED or halogen compatible × 1 — Use OEM specification or equivalent H11 bulb
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition completely
- Allow fog lights to cool if recently operated
- Turn steering wheel fully to the opposite side of the fog light being replaced for easier access (turn right for left fog light, left for right fog light)
- Prepare new fog light bulb and keep in packaging until ready to install
Procedure
- 1Access the fog light housingLocate the fog light housing from inside the front wheel well area. You may need to partially pull back the inner fender liner by removing or loosening plastic clips or push pins. On the Bolt EUV, access is typically gained without removing the wheel.
- 2Locate the bulb connectorBehind the fog light housing, locate the electrical connector attached to the bulb socket. Trace the wiring harness from the back of the fog light assembly to identify the correct connector.
- 3Disconnect the electrical connectorPress the release tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight away from the bulb socket. Do not pull on the wires themselves. The connector should release with moderate pressure on the tab.
- 4Remove the bulb socketRotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the fog light housing. Pull the socket straight out of the housing. Note the orientation of the socket for reinstallation.
- 5Remove the old bulbDepending on bulb type, either pull the bulb straight out of the socket (if it's a wedge-style connection) or press and rotate counterclockwise if it's a bayonet-style. The H11 bulb typically pulls straight out of the socket.
- 6Install the new bulbUsing a clean cloth or wearing gloves, insert the new H11 fog light bulb into the socket. Ensure the tabs on the bulb base align with the slots in the socket. Push firmly until the bulb seats completely. Do not touch the glass envelope of the bulb with bare skin.
- 7Reinstall the bulb socketInsert the bulb socket back into the fog light housing, aligning the tabs on the socket with the slots in the housing. Push in and rotate clockwise 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Verify the socket is secure and fully seated.
- 8Reconnect the electrical connectorPush the electrical connector onto the bulb socket until you hear or feel it click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it's securely attached.
- 9Test the fog lightTurn the vehicle to ON/ACC mode without starting the drive motor. Turn on the headlights and activate the fog lights using the lighting control switch. Verify the new fog light illuminates properly before completing reassembly.
Reassembly
- Reposition the inner fender liner if it was pulled back and secure any clips or push pins that were removed
- Return the steering wheel to center position
- Verify all trim pieces and wheel well components are properly secured
Verification
- Turn on the fog lights and verify both fog lights illuminate with equal brightness
- Check that the fog light beam pattern appears normal and centered
- Verify no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster related to exterior lighting
- Inspect the wheel well area to ensure all components are properly reinstalled and secure
