Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect 12V battery negative terminal (located in rear cargo area)
  3. Wait 2 minutes after battery disconnect before proceeding
  4. Ensure front wheels are straight

Procedure

  1. 1
Remove lower front fascia access panel
Working from underneath the front of the vehicle, locate and remove the lower front fascia access panel. Remove push-pin fasteners and trim clips securing the panel. Set aside panel and hardware for reinstallation.
  2. 2
    Access horn location
Locate the horn assembly mounted behind the front bumper fascia, typically positioned on the driver side of the radiator support bracket. The horn will be mounted to a bracket with a single bolt and have one electrical connector.
  3. 3
    Disconnect horn electrical connector
Press the tab on the horn electrical connector and pull straight off the horn terminal. Inspect connector terminals for corrosion or damage. If corrosion is present, clean with electrical contact cleaner.
  4. 4
    Remove horn mounting bolt
Using a 10mm socket, remove the single mounting bolt securing the horn to the bracket. Note the orientation of the horn for proper reinstallation. Remove the horn from the vehicle.

  5. 5
Inspect mounting bracket and ground connection
Examine the horn mounting bracket for damage or corrosion. Clean the mounting surface with a wire brush to ensure good electrical ground contact. The horn grounds through its mounting bracket, so clean contact surfaces are critical for proper operation.
  6. 6
    Install new or tested horn
Position the new or tested horn onto the mounting bracket in the correct orientation (horn opening facing down and forward). Install the mounting bolt and torque to specification.

  7. 7
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector firmly onto the horn terminal until it clicks into place. Ensure the connector is fully seated and the locking tab is engaged.
  8. 8
    Reinstall access panel
Position the lower front fascia access panel and secure with all push-pin fasteners and trim clips. Ensure all clips are fully seated and the panel is flush with surrounding fascia.
  9. 9
    Reconnect battery
Reconnect the 12V battery negative terminal in the rear cargo area. Torque the battery terminal bolt to specification.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all fascia panels are properly aligned and secured
  2. Check that no tools or parts were left in the engine compartment
  3. Ensure battery terminal is tight and secure

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting vehicle
  • Press horn button on steering wheel and verify horn sounds clearly
  • Check that horn tone is consistent and loud
  • Verify no warning lights are illuminated on instrument cluster
  • Test horn operation multiple times to ensure reliability
