Preparation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and secure away from terminal
  2. Raise vehicle on lift or support safely on jack stands at manufacturer lift points

  5. Drain cooling system from radiator petcock and lower radiator hose
  6. Remove radiator upper support brackets and cooling fan assembly

    Remove accessory drive components and front covers
    Remove power steering pump (if equipped) and AC compressor, positioning aside without disconnecting hoses. Remove water pump. Remove crankshaft balancer using harmonic balancer puller after removing center bolt. Remove alternator and mounting brackets. Remove all accessories blocking access to timing cover.

Using camshaft holding tool on hexagonal section of camshaft, remove cam phaser bolts from both intake and exhaust camshafts. Remove cam phasers and set aside with bolts. Note orientation of phasers for correct reinstallation.
    Do not allow camshafts to rotate during phaser removal. Hold camshaft firmly on hex section.

Route new timing chain around crankshaft sprocket, up through idler sprocket location, around intake camshaft sprocket, then exhaust camshaft sprocket. Install idler sprocket with chain positioned correctly. Verify all timing marks align: crankshaft mark at 12 o'clock, camshaft marks aligned per service manual specification. Chain should have no slack between sprockets with tensioners still pinned.
