Antenna

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the roof-mounted antenna assembly on a 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, including the antenna mast and base.

• Antenna assembly (mast and base) × 1 — GM 23465725 or equivalent
• Antenna base gasket/seal × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Turn ignition off and remove key
3. Ensure roof surface is clean and dry for easier access

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove antenna mast
   Unscrew the antenna mast by turning it counterclockwise by hand. The mast threads into the base and should remove easily. Set the mast aside in a clean location.

   Access overhead console
   Open both front doors for access. Carefully pull down on the overhead console trim cover at the rear edge near the dome light. Work your way forward, releasing the retention clips. The console does not need to be completely removed, just lowered enough to access the antenna cable.

   Disconnect antenna cable
   Locate the antenna coaxial cable connector behind the overhead console area. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight back from the antenna base. Note the routing of the cable for reinstallation.

   Remove antenna base mounting nuts
   From inside the vehicle with the headliner accessible, locate the three 8mm mounting nuts securing the antenna base to the roof. Use an 8mm socket and ratchet to remove all three nuts. Support the antenna base from outside to prevent it from falling.

   Remove antenna base assembly
   From outside the vehicle, carefully lift the antenna base assembly straight up and away from the roof. The base gasket may stick to the roof or the base - carefully peel it off and inspect for damage. Clean the roof mounting surface with a clean shop towel, removing any old gasket material or debris.

   Install new base gasket
   Position the new antenna base gasket on the roof, aligning the three mounting holes. Ensure the gasket sits flat against the roof surface with no wrinkles or gaps. If reusing the gasket, inspect it carefully for tears or compression damage and replace if necessary.

   Position new antenna base
   From outside the vehicle, carefully lower the new antenna base assembly through the roof opening, aligning the three mounting studs with the holes in the roof. Ensure the gasket remains properly positioned and the base sits flush against the roof.

   Install mounting hardware
   From inside the vehicle, thread the three 8mm mounting nuts onto the studs by hand. Tighten the nuts in a star pattern (alternating between nuts) to draw the base down evenly against the gasket. Torque the mounting nuts to 8.0 Nm (6 lb-ft) using a torque wrench in the same star pattern.

   Reconnect antenna cable
   Connect the antenna coaxial cable to the base connector, pushing firmly until you hear/feel a positive click. Gently tug on the cable to verify it is securely locked. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the connector if desired for corrosion protection.

    Reinstall overhead console
    Carefully press the overhead console trim back into position, starting at the front and working rearward. Ensure all retention clips are fully engaged by pressing firmly at each clip location until you hear them snap into place.

    Install antenna mast
    Thread the antenna mast into the base by turning it clockwise by hand. Tighten the mast firmly by hand only - do not use tools as this may damage the threads. The mast should thread in smoothly and seat completely.

Reassembly

1. Verify the overhead console is fully secured with all clips engaged
2. Check that the antenna base sits flush against the roof with no gaps visible
3. Ensure the antenna mast is tight and does not wobble

Verification

• Turn on the vehicle and test AM/FM radio reception on multiple stations to verify proper antenna function
• Inspect the antenna base from outside for proper seating and gasket alignment
• Check for water leaks after the next car wash or rain event, inspecting the headliner around the antenna base for moisture
• Verify the antenna mast is secure and does not loosen during normal driving
