Parts

  • HVAC control panel assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  4. Set steering wheel to straight-ahead position for access to instrument panel

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove center trim bezel
Using trim panel tools, carefully pry the center instrument panel trim bezel from the dash starting at the bottom corners. Work your way around the perimeter to release all clips. The bezel surrounds the HVAC controls and radio. Pull gently outward once clips are released and set aside on a protected surface to avoid scratches.
  2. 2
Access HVAC control panel mounting screws
With the trim bezel removed, you will see the HVAC control panel mounted in the instrument panel opening. Locate the four 7mm mounting screws, typically two on each side of the control panel assembly.
  3. 3
    Remove mounting screws
Using a 7mm socket with 1/4 inch ratchet and extension, remove all four mounting screws securing the HVAC control panel. Keep screws in a safe location for reinstallation.

  4. 4
    Pull control panel forward
Carefully pull the HVAC control panel assembly straight out from the instrument panel opening approximately 4-6 inches to access the electrical connectors on the back. Support the panel with one hand to prevent stress on the wiring harness.
  5. 5
    Disconnect electrical connectors
Locate the main electrical connector on the back of the control panel. Depress the locking tab and pull the connector straight off. On dual-zone climate control models, there may be a second connector for the passenger-side controls. Disconnect all connectors and note their positions for reassembly.
  6. 6
    Remove old control panel
Once all electrical connections are disconnected, remove the HVAC control panel completely from the vehicle. Inspect the mounting area and connectors for any damage or debris before installing the new panel.
  7. 7
    Install new control panel
Position the new HVAC control panel near the instrument panel opening. Connect all electrical connectors to the back of the new panel, ensuring each connector locks into place with an audible click. Verify connections are secure by gently pulling on each connector.
  8. 8
Secure control panel to instrument panel
Carefully guide the control panel assembly into the instrument panel opening, ensuring no wires are pinched behind the unit. Align the mounting screw holes and install all four 7mm mounting screws. Tighten screws evenly in a cross pattern to the specified torque.

  9. 9
    Reinstall center trim bezel
Position the center trim bezel over the control panel and align all mounting clips with their corresponding slots in the instrument panel. Starting at one corner, press firmly around the entire perimeter until all clips are fully seated and the bezel is flush with the dash surface.

Reassembly

  1. Reconnect the negative battery cable
  2. If equipped with automatic climate control, allow the system to complete its self-calibration cycle by turning the ignition to ON without starting the engine and cycling through all HVAC modes
  3. Verify all trim panels are properly secured and aligned

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position and verify HVAC control panel illuminates properly
  • Test all fan speed settings from low to high
  • Test all mode selections (vent, bi-level, floor, defrost, etc.) and verify air flows from correct vents
  • Test temperature control from full cold to full hot and confirm temperature changes
  • On dual-zone systems, verify passenger controls operate independently
  • Test rear seat controls if equipped
  • Verify A/C compressor engages when A/C button is pressed (listen for compressor clutch engagement)
  • Check that recirculation mode activates and deactivates properly
