This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the LED headlight module on a 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 5.3L V8 engine.
Warnings
⚠Allow headlights to cool for at least 15 minutes before beginning work to avoid burns from hot LED heat sinks
⚠Do not touch LED module surfaces or reflectors with bare hands as oils can cause hot spots and premature failure
ℹ️LED headlight modules are sensitive to static discharge. Ground yourself before handling the module
ℹ️Some models require headlight aim adjustment after module replacement

Parts
- LED Headlight Module Assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification - GM 84109646 (left) or 84109647 (right)
- Headlight Module Retaining Bolts (if damaged) × 4 — M8 x 1.25 bolts
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes to allow systems to power down
- Determine which headlight module needs replacement (driver or passenger side)
- Verify replacement module matches original (LED type, part number compatibility)
Procedure
- 1Disconnect BatteryDisconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket. Tuck cable away from battery post to prevent accidental reconnection during the repair.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 2Access Headlight AssemblyRemove the front grille if additional clearance is needed. On most 2014-2018 Silverado models, headlight access is available without grille removal. Remove the radiator cover panel retaining screws if present to improve access to the headlight mounting points.Torque specCover Screws14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 3Disconnect Headlight Electrical ConnectorLocate the main headlight electrical connector behind the headlight assembly. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight back from the module. If equipped with daytime running light or side marker connectors, disconnect these as well by pressing their respective release tabs.
- 4Remove Upper Mounting BoltsLocate the two upper headlight module mounting bolts accessible from the top of the assembly. Use an 8mm socket with extension to remove these bolts. Keep bolts organized for reinstallation.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 5Remove Lower Mounting BoltsAccess the lower mounting bolts from underneath the front bumper or through the wheel well area. Remove the two lower headlight module mounting bolts using an 8mm socket. On some models, turning the front wheels outward may improve access.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 6Remove Headlight ModuleWith all mounting bolts removed, carefully pull the headlight module forward and out of the mounting position. The module may require slight rocking motion to disengage from alignment pins. Be careful not to scratch the module housing or surrounding body panels during removal.
- 7Inspect Mounting AreaClean the mounting surface and alignment pin holes of any debris, dirt, or corrosion. Inspect the wiring harness connector for corrosion, damage, or bent pins. Check that rubber seals and grommets in the mounting area are intact. Replace any damaged seals to prevent water intrusion.
- 8Prepare New ModuleRemove the new LED headlight module from protective packaging. Inspect the module for any shipping damage. Do not remove protective film from lens until after installation. Verify all mounting tabs and alignment pins are present and undamaged.
- 9Install New Headlight ModulePosition the new headlight module into the mounting location, aligning the module with the alignment pins in the body. Ensure the module seats fully into position before attempting to install mounting bolts. The module should sit flush with the surrounding body panels.
- 10Install Mounting BoltsInstall all four mounting bolts (two upper, two lower) finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Then torque all mounting bolts in a cross pattern to specification using a torque wrench. Do not overtighten as this can crack the module housing.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 11Reconnect Electrical ConnectorsReconnect the main headlight electrical connector by pushing it firmly into the module until it clicks. Reconnect any additional connectors for daytime running lights or side markers. Verify all connections are fully seated and locking tabs are engaged.
- 12Reinstall Covers and Reconnect BatteryReinstall any covers or panels removed during access. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification. Do not overtighten the battery terminal bolt as this can damage the terminal.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)Cover Screws14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
- Verify headlight module is flush with body panels and properly aligned
- Remove any protective film from headlight lens
- Double-check that all mounting bolts are torqued to specification
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and verify headlights illuminate properly in low and high beam modes
- Test daytime running lights and turn signals if integrated into the headlight module
- Check for any warning lights on the instrument cluster related to headlight malfunction
- Verify headlight aim is correct - headlights should point straight ahead and slightly downward. Adjust aim if necessary using headlight aim adjustment screws
- Test headlight cutoff pattern by parking 25 feet from a wall in a dark area - the beam should have a sharp horizontal cutoff
- Inspect for any gaps between headlight module and body panels that could allow water intrusion
