This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the transmission mount on a 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L V8 EcoTec3 engine, including crossmember removal and reinstallation.
Warnings
⚠️Vehicle must be properly supported on jack stands. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a hydraulic jack.
⚠The transmission must be properly supported before removing mount bolts to prevent damage or injury.
⚠Ensure transmission is in Park and parking brake is engaged before beginning work.

Parts
- Transmission mount assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Chock the rear wheels to prevent movement
- Raise vehicle using floor jack at factory lift points
- Support vehicle securely with jack stands at frame locations
- Allow exhaust system to cool completely if vehicle was recently driven
- Position transmission jack or floor jack with wood block under transmission pan (avoid placing jack on drain plug)
Procedure
- 1Support the transmissionRaise the transmission jack or floor jack until it just makes contact with the transmission pan. Apply slight upward pressure to take the weight off the mount, but do not lift the transmission significantly. Use a block of wood between the jack and pan to distribute load and prevent pan damage.
- 2Remove transmission mount-to-crossmember boltsLocate the two bolts securing the transmission mount to the crossmember. These are accessed from underneath the vehicle. Remove both bolts completely and retain hardware.Torque specTransmission Mount Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 3Remove crossmember-to-frame boltsLocate the crossmember bolts on both sides of the vehicle where the crossmember attaches to the frame rails. There are typically two bolts per side. Remove all four bolts and retain them. Note the orientation of any washers or spacers.Torque specCrossmember Bolts95 Nm (70 lb-ft)
- 4Lower and remove crossmemberCarefully lower the crossmember away from the frame. You may need to slightly raise or lower the transmission jack to provide clearance. Remove the crossmember completely from under the vehicle.
- 5Remove transmission mount-to-transmission boltsWith the crossmember removed, access is now available to the bolts securing the mount to the transmission. Remove these bolts (typically 2-3 bolts depending on mount design). Support the mount as you remove the last bolt.Torque specTransmission Mount Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 6Remove old transmission mountRemove the transmission mount from the transmission. Inspect the mounting surface on the transmission for damage, cracks, or stripped threads. Clean the mounting surface with a wire brush if necessary.
- 7Install new transmission mountPosition the new transmission mount onto the transmission. Align all bolt holes properly. Install the mount-to-transmission bolts and hand-tighten them initially. Ensure the mount is properly seated before proceeding.
- 8Torque mount-to-transmission boltsUsing a torque wrench, tighten the transmission mount-to-transmission bolts to specification in a cross pattern if multiple bolts are present. Verify all bolts are properly seated and torqued.Torque specTransmission Mount Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 9Install crossmemberRaise the crossmember into position, aligning the bolt holes with the frame rails on both sides. You may need to adjust the transmission jack height slightly to align the mount with the crossmember. Install all crossmember-to-frame bolts hand-tight initially.
- 10Torque crossmember-to-frame boltsUsing a torque wrench, tighten the crossmember-to-frame bolts to specification. Start with one side and work to the other to ensure even seating. Verify the crossmember is properly positioned against the frame before final torque.Torque specCrossmember Bolts95 Nm (70 lb-ft)
- 11Install mount-to-crossmember boltsInstall the bolts connecting the transmission mount to the crossmember. Hand-tighten initially, ensuring proper thread engagement. The mount should align naturally with the crossmember holes when the transmission is properly positioned.
- 12Torque mount-to-crossmember bolts and remove jackTorque the transmission mount-to-crossmember bolts to specification. Once all fasteners are properly torqued, slowly lower the transmission jack to transfer the weight fully to the new mount. Remove the transmission jack from under the vehicle.Torque specTransmission Mount Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Verify all bolts are torqued to specification and no tools or parts remain under vehicle
- Remove jack stands and carefully lower vehicle to ground
Verification
- Start the engine and shift through all transmission gears while stationary to verify smooth operation
- Check for excessive vibration or abnormal movement of the transmission
- Perform a test drive and verify no unusual vibrations, especially during acceleration and deceleration
- Re-inspect all fasteners after test drive to ensure none have loosened
- Visually inspect the mount installation from underneath to verify proper seating and alignment
