Blower Motor

Remove and replace the blower motor assembly located in the HVAC housing under the passenger side of the dashboard.

• Blower motor assembly × 1 — Mopar 4683495 or equivalent
• Blower motor resistor (if defective) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
2. Turn ignition off and remove key
3. Open passenger door fully for access
4. Allow HVAC system to cool if recently operated

Procedure

1. 1

   Disconnect battery negative terminal
   Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts. The battery is located in the engine compartment. Use a 10mm socket to loosen the negative terminal clamp and remove the cable.

   Access passenger side lower dash area
   Position yourself in the passenger footwell. The blower motor is located above the passenger footwell area, mounted to the HVAC housing behind the lower dash panel. You may need to recline or remove the passenger seat for improved access depending on your build.

   Locate blower motor housing
   Using a flashlight, locate the cylindrical blower motor housing mounted to the HVAC evaporator case. The motor is positioned horizontally with the electrical connector facing toward the center of the vehicle. The blower motor cage and housing will be visible through the opening in the HVAC case.

   Disconnect blower motor electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector on the blower motor. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull it straight off the motor terminals. You may need to reach up behind the motor housing to access the connector properly.

   Remove blower motor mounting screws
   Remove the 3 screws securing the blower motor to the HVAC housing using a 7mm socket. The screws are arranged around the perimeter of the motor mounting flange. Support the blower motor with one hand while removing the final screw to prevent it from falling.

   Extract blower motor assembly
   Carefully rotate and maneuver the blower motor assembly out of the HVAC housing opening. The fan cage may require angling to clear the housing opening. Work slowly to avoid bending the fan blades or damaging the motor housing.

   Inspect blower motor resistor
   With the blower motor removed, inspect the blower motor resistor mounted near the motor opening on the HVAC case. Check for signs of heat damage, corrosion, or burnt connections. The resistor is secured with 2 screws. If replacement is needed, disconnect its electrical connector, remove the 2 mounting screws with a 7mm socket, and install the new resistor.

   Inspect new blower motor
   Verify the new blower motor matches the original in mounting hole pattern and electrical connector configuration. Check that the fan cage rotates freely without wobble or binding. Ensure the mounting flange gasket or seal is properly positioned on the new motor.

   Install new blower motor
   Carefully guide the new blower motor assembly into the HVAC housing opening, angling the fan cage as needed to clear the opening. Align the mounting holes in the motor flange with the holes in the HVAC housing. Ensure any gasket or seal is properly positioned before fastening.

    Install blower motor mounting screws
    Install the mounting screws by hand to start all threads. Tighten the screws snugly and evenly (refer to the factory service manual for exact count and torque specification). This ensures even sealing and prevents air leaks around the motor housing.

    Reconnect blower motor electrical connector
    Push the electrical connector firmly onto the blower motor terminals until the locking tab clicks into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging on the connector body.

    Reconnect battery and test operation
    Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the clamp with a 10mm socket. Turn the ignition to the RUN position without starting the engine. Test the blower motor at all available fan speed settings to verify proper operation. Listen for unusual noises and verify airflow from the vents.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly locked
2. Verify no tools or fasteners were left in the HVAC housing or dash area
3. Reposition passenger seat if it was moved during the procedure

Verification

• With engine running, test blower motor at all four speed settings
• Verify smooth operation with no unusual vibration or noise
• Confirm adequate airflow from all vent positions
• Check that blower motor operates quietly without rattling or grinding
• Verify no air leaks around the blower motor mounting area
