Bumper Reinforcement - Front

Remove and replace the front bumper reinforcement bar on a 1992 Dodge Viper, including removal of the front fascia and disconnection of mounting hardware.

• Front bumper reinforcement bar × 1 — Use OEM specification
• Bumper cover fasteners (as needed) × 1 — Replace any damaged clips or bolts

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
3. Disconnect negative battery cable to prevent electrical issues
4. Allow vehicle to cool completely if recently driven
5. Raise front of vehicle with floor jack and support on jack stands at manufacturer-approved lift points

Procedure

   Remove lower fascia fasteners
   Working from underneath the vehicle, locate and remove the lower fascia mounting fasteners along the bottom edge. These are typically 10mm bolts or screws securing the lower edge of the front fascia to the undertray and frame. Count and note all fastener locations for reassembly.

   Remove wheel well liner fasteners
   At each front wheel well, locate the fasteners securing the front edge of the wheel well liner to the fascia. Remove these fasteners (typically plastic clips or screws) on both sides. Pull the liner back slightly to access the side fascia mounting points.

   Remove upper fascia mounting bolts
   Open the hood and locate the upper fascia mounting bolts along the top edge of the fascia where it meets the hood latch panel. Remove 4 bolts securing the fascia to the upper radiator support and frame structure.

   Disconnect fog light connectors
   If equipped with fog lights integrated into the front fascia, reach behind the fascia and disconnect the electrical connectors. Press the release tab and pull the connectors apart. Route the wiring clear of the fascia removal path.

   Remove side fascia mounting bolts
   With the wheel well liners pulled back, locate and remove the side mounting bolts that secure the fascia to the fender structure on each side. These are typically accessed through the wheel well opening. Remove 2-3 bolts per side.

   Remove front fascia
   With all fasteners removed, carefully pull the front fascia forward and away from the vehicle. Have an assistant support the fascia or use padded supports. The fascia may have alignment tabs that need to be disengaged gently. Place the fascia in a safe location where it will not be damaged.

   Remove bumper reinforcement mounting bolts
   With the fascia removed, the steel bumper reinforcement bar is now visible. Locate the mounting bolts on each end of the reinforcement bar where it attaches to the frame rails. Remove the 4 mounting bolts (2 per side) securing the reinforcement to the frame rail brackets using a 15mm socket.

   Remove bumper reinforcement bar
   With all mounting bolts removed, carefully pull the bumper reinforcement bar forward and away from the frame rails. The bar is heavy, so use proper lifting technique or have an assistant help support the weight. Inspect the mounting brackets on the frame rails for damage or corrosion.

   Inspect mounting points and clean surfaces
   Inspect the frame rail mounting brackets for damage, cracks, or excessive corrosion. Clean the mounting surfaces with a wire brush to remove any rust or debris. Ensure all threaded holes are clean and threads are in good condition.

    Install new bumper reinforcement bar
    Position the new bumper reinforcement bar onto the frame rail mounting brackets, aligning the mounting holes. Start all mounting bolts by hand to ensure proper thread engagement before tightening. Install the mounting bolts and torque to specification.

    Reinstall front fascia
    With an assistant or using supports, position the front fascia back onto the vehicle. Align the fascia with the mounting points and ensure any alignment tabs engage properly with their corresponding slots. Start all mounting fasteners by hand before fully tightening.

    Secure all fascia mounting points
    Install and torque the upper fascia bolts, side mounting bolts through the wheel wells, and lower fascia fasteners. Work in a pattern from top to bottom to ensure even alignment. Reconnect fog light electrical connectors if equipped. Reinstall wheel well liner fasteners on both sides.

Reassembly

1. Torque all mounting bolts to specification in the order listed
2. Verify all electrical connections are secure and properly routed
3. Check fascia alignment and panel gaps before final tightening
4. Ensure wheel well liners are properly secured and not interfering with tire rotation
5. Reconnect negative battery cable

Verification

• Check that all panel gaps between fascia and hood/fenders are even and consistent
• Verify the front fascia is securely mounted with no loose areas or rattles
• Test fog lights if equipped to confirm electrical connections are secure
• Visually inspect from multiple angles to ensure proper alignment
• Confirm bumper reinforcement is solidly mounted with no movement when pressed
• Lower vehicle from jack stands and perform final visual inspection
