Fog Light Assembly

Remove and replace the fog light assembly on a 1992 Dodge Viper, including housing, bulb, and wiring connector.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
2. Turn off ignition and remove key
3. Allow fog lights to cool if recently operated
4. Turn front wheels to full lock away from the side being serviced for improved access

Procedure

   Access fog light assembly
   Position yourself in front of the vehicle at the bumper area where the fog light is located. The fog light housing is typically mounted in the lower fascia or air dam area. Identify the fog light assembly and its mounting configuration.

   Disconnect wiring harness
   Reach behind the fog light assembly and locate the electrical connector. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight back to disconnect it from the fog light. If access is limited, you may need to reach through the wheel well or from underneath the vehicle.

   Remove mounting fasteners
   Locate the mounting fasteners securing the fog light assembly. Remove the mounting bolts (typically 2-3, count varies by aftermarket/dealer-installed kit) using an appropriately sized socket and extension. Support the fog light assembly with one hand as you remove the final fastener to prevent it from dropping.

   Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)

   Extract fog light assembly
   Carefully pull the fog light assembly forward and out of the mounting location. Guide the wiring harness through any routing clips or grommets as you remove the assembly. Inspect the mounting area for any damaged clips or brackets.

   Inspect and prepare new assembly
   Compare the old fog light assembly with the new unit to ensure proper match. If reusing the bulb, carefully remove the H3 bulb from the old housing by releasing the spring clip or rotating counterclockwise (depending on design). Install the bulb in the new housing if needed, avoiding contact with the glass portion of the bulb.

   Install new fog light assembly
   Route the wiring harness through the mounting location and position the new fog light assembly into place. Align the mounting holes with the brackets on the vehicle. Install the 3 mounting bolts hand-tight initially to allow for adjustment.

   Adjust and secure assembly
   Verify the fog light assembly is properly seated and aligned with the bumper fascia. Tighten the mounting bolts snugly per the aftermarket kit instructions, being careful not to over-torque plastic mounting points; no factory torque spec exists for this non-OEM assembly. If torque wrench is not available, tighten snugly but do not over-torque plastic mounting points.

   Reconnect electrical connector
   Connect the wiring harness to the fog light assembly by pushing the connector firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.

Reassembly

1. Return steering wheel to center position after testing
2. Ensure all wiring is properly routed and secured away from moving components or heat sources

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position and activate fog lights using the switch
• Verify the new fog light illuminates properly with correct beam pattern
• Check that fog light assembly is securely mounted with no movement or rattling
• Inspect for proper alignment with opposite side fog light if equipped
• Turn off fog lights and verify no warning lights remain on dashboard
